New book tells story of eco-bridesmaid’s Oz Odessey

I am really excited and have a few feelings of trepidation (but only much like the thought of eating this whole lizard when I was in Bangkok and delaying going to the red light district!!) as today we are going to press, to tell everyone that Babs2Brisbane is out.  This is what the CAT media office have had to say about my book so far.

Babs2Brisbane is Barbara Haddrill’s account of her incredible overland journey from Wales to Australia to be bridesmaid at her best friends’ wedding: a brave odyssey that should earn her the respect of travellers everywhere.

A market for the old Drover’s roads

The weekly market in Machynlleth is a wondrous event, a tradition upheld in the town for many a century. People from the hills and beyond trot into town to buy or sell their wares for the week (although sadly the weekly cattle market has recently closed.) There is no need for arrangements by phone or email, you can easily walk the streets and bump into all the people you are looking for. By standing still and busking it is even easier as people hear you and come your way. In this very way I have met some truly interesting and wonderful people – especially on a sunny day when the numbers are boosted by unseasonable levels of vitamin d. (more…)

My first thoughts on flying – an extract from Chapter Two

The book is finally out! and … after the initial shock of finally seeing this ‘thing’ as a book – it was somehow like having a baby! … I am really happy with how it looks.  The paper feels lovely and looks lovely (thanks to Annika and Ian and Graham) and it is actually quite a weighty tome.  For details of how to buy your own copy see the ‘Book‘ page of my blog.  To tempt you more, here is a short extract from Chapter Two.
