Babs2Brisbane by Barbara Haddrill

A sneak preview of the book cover!

Babs Haddrill captured the imagination of the world’s press when she set off from Wales on a carbon-busting, clock defying overland adventure to Brisbane. Her mission: to get to the other side of the world – without flying – in time to be bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding. It really was a case of ‘Get me to the church on time…’

As the media tracked her progress across three continents Babs was intent on finding out whether environmentally friendly travel could mitigate globalisation’s impact on close relationships. The world followed her journey, travelling overland by boat, train, truck, bike and boots, from the Trans-Siberian to the Mekong Delta, on her blog – www.babs2brisbane.com – totting up the ‘friendship’ miles and the carbon cost as she went.

Getting to the other side of the world without flying proved to be an immense feat of emotional resilience, pre-trip planning, on the hoof decision making and ultimately painful compromise. Did she make it? This is the inside story of her epic journey, painting a compelling picture of the world you find when you take the route less travelled.
